The Asparagus Fern (Asparagus densiflorus ) is a plant of the genus Asparagus (Asparagus ) in the family of asparagus plants ( Asparagaceae ).

Features

Asparagus Fern is an evergreen, climbing shrub that reaches heights of growth from 30 to 150 centimeters. The plant forms of tuber roots. The slip sheets can be flat, have a central rib, and measure 10 to 30 × 1.5 to 2.5 millimeters. Each of 1 to 5 are arranged at the nodes. The Journal spur is thorny. The flowers are arranged in racemes and smell.

The flowering period extends from July to August.

Occurrence

Asparagus Fern comes in South Africa from the Cape Province to Mozambique.

Use

Asparagus Fern is widely used as an ornamental plant. The species is in cultivation since at least 1890. Well known is the variety ' Sprengeri '.
