Aspren

Asprenas (also: Aspren or Asprenus ) ( Italian: Sant'Asprenato, Sant'Aspreno, Sant'Aspremo ) ( † 79 in Naples ) was an early Christian saint and according to tradition, first Bishop of Naples.

Legend has it that Peter when he walked in Naples on his second journey from Antioch to Rome on land, first Asprenas ' wife Candida met the elders who had been freed by meeting directly from their headaches. Asprenas himself had been seriously ill, but has also been cured immediately when he met Peter and had then baptized. Peter had then Asprenas consecrated bishop on the town of Naples, where he built the Chapel of Santa Maria del Principo, which later developed the Basilica of Santa Restituta. Usually a period of 23 years is assumed for the episcopate of Asprenas. Earliest evidence for the existence of Asprenas however is only the so-called marble calendar of Naples ( Calendario Marmoreo di Napoli) from the time of Emperor Trajan and Hadrian.

Commemoration of the Holy is the 3rd of November. His bones are said to have been introduced by Bishop John IV of Naples at the beginning of the 9th century in the Basilica of Santa Restituta. According to the Holy Januarius Asprenas was the second, which was declared one of the city's patron saints of Naples, of which there are over 50 today.
