Assay

The word assay ( German: test sample) comes from the English -speaking world and is there a general examination for the detection of certain substances (eg metals). In the German language assay referred mainly in laboratory medicine and pharmaceutical research a standardized course of the reaction for the detection of a substance with a specific method. In particular, this refers to molecular biological methods.

There is no special feature that distinguishes an assay over other detection methods, at best that the occurrence of the name indicates the origin of the name or the method from the English-speaking world. In many cases, the assay was replaced with other words (for example, Bradford assay ).
