Assebroek
Assebroek is a district of Bruges, south - east of the city center.
The place erstreckts to 8.52 km ², and had at the beginning of 2005, 19 473 inhabitants.
History
Through discoveries in the near Sint -Lucas Hospital (look at the Gruuthuse Museum in Bruges ) is to be assumed that this region has been inhabited since the Stone Age. Aerial Photos of Meersen reveal a 300 -m-wide ring of ditches and ramparts dating from the 5th century, where the Lords of Assebroek later built their castle.
Assebroek independently until the annexation by Bruges in 1970.
