Asselstein

The Asselstein near Annweiler am Trifels in Rhineland-Palatinate County Southern Wine Route is a little more than 400 meters above sea level. NHN high elevation in the Palatinate Forest, on which the rock tower Asselstein is.

Geographical location

The Asselstein located in the eastern area of the Palatinate forest about 1.7 km south of Annweiler am Trifels, 1 km west of its district Binder Bach and 1 km northeast of the Rehberg ( 576.8 m). The road from Annweiler to Trifels that Trifelsstrasse ( County Road 2) leads, on the southern highlands of the Asselstein to Rehberg - northern flank.

Tor Asselstein

The approximately 60 meters long and 10 meters wide cliff is 58 meters high at its highest point and is composed of the rocks of the lower Buntsandstein ( Trifelsschichten ). The Asselstein was first climbed in June 1860. He belongs with his almost 80 routes, eg Normal IV, V- west wall, Rolf fireplace V V and east walls (all UIAA scale) to the larger climbing destinations climbing area in Southern Palatinate. The hardest way is ranked at 9 ( UIAA ). Not far east of the rock there is the climbing hut Asselstein.
