Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia

The Parliament of the Republic of Macedonia ( Macedonian Собрание на Република Македонија, Albanian Kuvendi i Republikës së Maqedonisë ) is the unicameral Parliament of Macedonia.

123 members are elected every four years in Parliament. Three members are elected by the Macedonian diaspora. Since the last elections, five parties are represented.

Choice zones

In the parliamentary elections, the country is divided into six zones, each select 20 MPs. In October 2008, three zones have been added: the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia, which each provide their own deputies. In these zones to their nationals abroad can choose for Parliament. Applied these new rules in the 2011 parliamentary elections, where the number of deputies was then increased to 123.

Seat Distribution for 2011-2015

Since independence in 1991, found in the country five parliamentary elections (1994, 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2008 ). In the 1998 elections, the VMRO -DPMNE was with 11 of 35 seats winner. In 2002, the Social Democrats came to power. In the elections, they won with their coalition Together for Macedonia 61 of 120 seats. At the next parliamentary elections in 2006, the Social Democrats lost 29 seats. The winner was possible coalition under the leadership of VMRO -DPMNE with 45 seats out of 120. Shortly thereafter formed a coalition with the VMRO the Albanian Democratic Party ( PDSH ) and a government could build. Since Macedonia but initially refused in February 2008 to recognize Kosovo as an independent state and the adoption of the minority laws preceded depressed, the PDSH left the alliance ( boycott ) and for the June 1, 2008 early parliamentary elections were called. The winner was there again the VMRO -DPMNE with 63 seats out of a total possible 120. For the formation of a government formed a coalition with the VMRO the PDSH rival Democratic Union for Integration.
