Assen

( Listen? / I ) Assen is the capital of the Dutch province of Drenthe. The city had 67,173 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). It lies on a flight sand ridge to the north of the province of Drenthe.

History

1258 the convent of Sancta Maria was moved from Coevorden in the place where the village is located Assen today.
