Assif Tsahar

Assif Tsahar ( born June 11, 1969 in Tel Aviv) is an Israeli jazz musician.

Tsahar, who grew up in Tel Aviv, began at the age of fourteen years to play guitar and joined seventeen to the saxophone, and later came to the bass clarinet. In 1990 he came to New York, where he soon was part of the musical scene by Cecil Taylor, Butch Morris, William Parker and Susie Ibarra.

With Patricia Parker, the wife of William Parker, he also founded the alternative vision festival, 1999, the record label Hopscotch Records. In addition to working in a trio with William Parker and Susie Ibarra, he formed a trio with Peter Kowald and Rashied Ali. He also appeared in groups of Cecil Taylor and Butch Morris and has worked with Gunda Gottschalk, Umberto Petrin, Ken Vandermark and Kent Kessler. On a European tour in 2003, he was heard with Mat Maneri and Jim Black.
