Assindia Cardinals

The Assindia Cardinals are a German American Football team from Essen (North Rhine- Westphalia), the various seasons in the highest German football league, the GFL played. The name Assindia Cardinals is composed of the Latin name for the city of Essen ( Assindia ) and the Cardinal ( Cardinal ). The team's logo is a Cardinal Bird dar. against yellow background

History

The Assindia Cardinals were founded on 26 June 1983. Launched in the 3rd Liga in 1984 men's team went two years running directly to and remained until 1990 in the 1st Bundesliga, now the GFL.

After rebuilding the Cardinals started in 1991 in the 4th league and started after direct ascent from 1992 to 1994 in the Regionalliga. Downgraded by a league Reform Act of 1994 in the Oberliga, the direct re- promotion to the Regionalliga, was played in 1995 and 1996.

Another rebuilding the team took place in 1997 under head coach Christos Mantzaridis and in 1998 the rise in the 2nd league and 2000, the rise in the GFL.

After three years on the top flight they finished in the 2003 season only in the last place. The play-offs against the Dusseldorf Panthers were lost. After the descent was a move away from the George Melches Stadium in the Sportpark Am Hallo. After only one year membership to the 2nd Bundesliga took place in 2004, a further decline in the Regionalliga West, where the Cardinals played in 2005. The World Games 2005 were with Martin and Albert Falkowski two Cardinals players in the Germany squad.

In the 2005 season the senior team was able to direct promotion back to the GFL 2 North. Both relegation matches against competitors that Red Cocks from Frankfurt (Oder ), were clearly won with 27:0 and 12:0 respectively. However, in 2006, the Cardinals only occupied the 7th place and thus got back from the Regionalliga. After the direct promotion back to the GFL 2 North were abolished in the 2008 season, even the walkthrough. The Cardinals were first in the GFL 2 North and crowned the season by the rise in the GFL by two wins ( 24:17, 28:23 ) in the relegation against the Cologne Falcons. For this performance the team for the " Versatel Night of Sports 2008 " ( athletes choice of the city of Essen ) in the category was nominated " Team of the Year " and coach Bernd Janzen in the category " Coach of the Year ". On November 22, the team actually got the award then " Team of the Year 2008".

2012 appeared the Cardinals in the GFL at 2 North.

Special

With the 6:100 defeat in 1989 and the 0:102 defeat in 1990 against the Berlin Adler the Cardinals belong to the circle of those teams, in addition to the Ratingen Raiders and the Hilden Hurricanes, which suffered a three-digit result in the top division.

In addition to the first team the Cardinals Assindia run multiple youth tackle teams. From the A- to the C- youth there Tackle teams. Also, include a number of squads of cheerleaders for the club.

Assindia Cardinals Youth Tackle team

1998 Tackle Youth Assindia the Cardinals of the former players of the men's team Andreas Doehring, Klaus Meyer and Marcus Wolf was re-formed. They first played until 2000 in a gaming community with the youth team of Dortmund Giants.

2001, the gaming community was dissolved and the Cardinals played first in the league structure. After the rise of youth succeeded throughout the league in youth league power and in 2003 the NRW master.

He led the tackle youth in the same year the NRW Champion title. After winning the play-offs against the Hessen- Champion Wiesbaden Phantoms, as well as against the last of the GFL -J center, the Darmstadt Diamonds, the team got back on the Youth League ( GFL -J).

2010 play Juniors in the Youth Regional NRW ( 2 league). After two defeats at the start, they won their third game in Troisdorf Jets.

The youth team set already some successful players for the squad of youth national team, such as Tobias Lemke, Tim Schmölzer, Tim Baumer, Nils Foege and Markus Patschke.

Assindia Cardinals Flags

The flags of the Men in Blue ( short MIB ) was established in 1999. From the beginning, the Cardinal flags were among the most successful teams in NRW. The Cardinals are on the 3rd place in the eternal table of NRW Flag League. Since 2005 there has been a final of the NRW Championship. 2006 took place in Essen NRW FlagBowl. In this context, there was even a semi-final for the first time. It played in each of the two groups, the two best. Led by quarterback Marvin Merten the flags of Assindia Cardinals played in 2006, their most successful season to date. With a score of 439:6 the undefeated Cardinals Flags achieved a "Perfect Season" and also went in NRW semi-final against the Thunderbirds with 17:0 as the winner of the field. In the final, the later champions of Dusseldorf you had to admit defeat. 2009 played the Flaggies her last season and finished it on the 4th Place. 2012, the flag of the Cardinals team under the name Firebirds formed and new plays for the first time in 2013 in the DFFL League West.
