Assistive Technology Service Provider Interface

Assistive Technology Service Provider Interface (AT- SPI ) is a toolkit - neutral way to equip applications with possibilities of accessibility. It was developed by the GNOME Accessibility project. AT- SPI provides a logical representation of the user interface of an application. Tools such as screen readers or screen magnifiers can use it to enable disabled people to navigate and dealing with the applications.

AT- SPI can also be used with tools such as Linux Desktop Testing Project or Dogtail for automated testing of user interfaces.

It is currently supported by GTK 2, Java / Swing, the Mozilla Application Suite and StarOffice / OpenOffice.org. Trolltech (now Qt Software ) has also announced some support in Qt ( the GUI library from KDE).

The Free Standards Group is considering to make AT- SPI to a standard Linux.
