Association des États Généraux des Étudiants de l'Europe

The Association des États Généreaux of Étudiants de l'Europe ( AEGEE, also known as the European Students' Forum ) is the largest interdisciplinary student organization in Europe.

Short Description

The club was founded in 1985 by students in Paris and is now a network is extending over the whole of Europe and about 13,000 members in nearly 200 local AEGEE groups ( "antenna ") is university towns 40 European countries. The roof representative based in Brussels has consultative status with the Euro Europe and the UN as well as action status at UNESCO.

History

The club was founded in 1985 as EGEE EGEE conference, which was attended by students from Paris, Leiden, London, Madrid, Milan and Munich. The conference was organized among others by Franck Biancheri. EGEE 1987 could win the then French President François Mitterrand for support of the ERASMUS program. This later became a successful European exchange program.

In 1988 the organization 's name from EGEE to AEGEE. For the first time the so-called "Summer University" project took place. The club moved in 1995 with headquarters in Brussels. With AEGEE -Ankara, the first antenna was founded in the same year, which is geographically situated in Asia. 1998 AEGEE visited for the first time the Republic of Cyprus. AEGEE - Magusa (Famagusta ) was established in 2001.

In the years 2001 and 2002 AEGEE organized several projects, themed the peace and stability in South-Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean. 2003 AEGEE visited for the first time to the Caucasus in the context of a case study trips. In the same year AEGEE -Europe organized a conference in the buffer zone in Nicosia ( Lefkosia in Greek, Turkish Lefkoşa ) in Cyprus.

Also in Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan exist AEGEE groups.

Structure

European and local level

The club is basically divided into two levels, the European level, represented by AEGEE -Europe with the European Board and various committees, working groups and international projects, as well as the local level of the individual, autonomous groups ( "antenna " or "Locals " called ).

Agora

The Agora (derived from the Greek "marketplace" ) is the Assembly of AEGEE. It takes place twice a year, normally in April ( "Spring Agora " ) and October ( "fall Agora "), in constantly changing locations in Europe instead. Depending on the capacity of the organizing Locals take up to 1,000 members participated.

The Agora is the only decision-making body of AEGEE. Besides political discussions here, the statutes are amended and held elections. Participants are representatives of local groups and the various organs AEGEE - Europes. Depending on their status as delegates, observer or visitor they are provided with different rights and obligations. Comité Directeur

The Comité Directeur (CD) is the board of AEGEE -Europe. It has its seat in Brussels and consists of up to seven elected members. These are in addition to the President, the Secretary and the Treasurer four general officers, who administer the network and make political decisions.

Active civil society

The Association is an independent, non-partisan organization that works closely with governments, institutions and other NGOs. AEGEE sees itself at every level as a political voice for its members. Within the network events are organized on various topics, the results of which will among other things, lobbying of European organizations are used.

Academic Education

The association consists of students who are advocating for a European dimension in higher education. AEGEE not only supports student mobility, but also the learning of languages ​​and international co-operation at academic level. The association also urges the development of European educational programs, such as ERASMUS.

Peace and stability

The association promotes and encourages the spread of democratic ideals, tolerance, openness and mutual understanding between young people in conflict areas, thus contributing to conflict resolution in the Balkans, the Caucasus, Cyprus and between Greeks and Turks. For example, the association regularly organizes conferences and other events on this topic.

Cultural Exchange

The promotion of respect and appreciation between students of different European cultures is the core of the association. It sees this topic as a central point of European integration, in the belief that integration can never be imposed from the top down, but must arise from intra- European peoples understanding out. Within the network each year realized a variety of exchange programs.
