Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas

The ASPO ( Association for the Study of Peak Oil and gas production peak ) is a global network of scientists, politicians and journalists who would like to make the public aware of the possible consequences of the assumed global production peak oil ( peak oil ) carefully and inform about possible solutions. Furthermore, the timing and potential impact as well as the decline in production rates investigated; Same with respect to the natural gas production peak.

Positions

The ASPO dated the global maximum to new discoveries of oil deposits to the year 1964 ( Peak Discovery ), followed by the global oil production peak of conventional crude oil in 2005 (peak production). Although we have since can increase oil production from unconventional sources such as the polar regions, deep sea, tar sands or dense rocks, but this rich, according to analysis of ASPO is not sufficient to compensate for the loss of depleting conventional oil reservoirs in the longer term.

History and club structure

The ASPO was founded in 2002 by the British petroleum geologist Colin J. Campbell. This initiative was the inspiration for the founding of the ASPO ASPO Germany and Switzerland in 2006.

President of ASPO International is the Swedish physics professor Kjell Aleklett. Chairman of the ASPO Germany is the engineer Jörn black. Chairman of ASPO Switzerland is the geologist Walter Stocker.
