Association of Radio Industries and Businesses, ARIB short, the Japanese TV standards organization who is also responsible for the introduction of digital television.

In Japan, a GEM -based application environment under the name " ARIB B.23 " ( " ARIB AE" middleware ) was adapted by ARIB in the context of DVB. This should be ensured with the mainstream of MHP interoperability. The standards Multimedia Home Platform ( MHP) in Europe and OpenCable Application Platform ( OCAP ) in North America are also based on GEM.

The development of GEM was forced here by ARIB together with OCAP ( CableLabs ).

In February 2003, GEM was released v1.0, later followed GEM 1.0.1 and since May 2005, there is a draft of v1.0.2. In the latter, both with respect to the known 1.0.x MHP DVB -J is taken, as well as the DVB- MHP 1.1.x. from HTML Seen in GEM only a container specification at MHP ( 1.xx ) OCAP (1.0.3 ) and other standards served.
