Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany

The Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany ( AWMF ), founded on November 10, 1962 in Frankfurt am Main, since 2007, registered association ( eV ), the German umbrella organization of 168 scientific societies (November 2013) from all areas of Medicine ( together approximately 180,000 members). Since 1995, coordinates the AWMF the development of clinical guidelines for diagnosis and treatment by individual Scientific Medical Societies. The AWMF is a non profit ( Promotion of Science ).

Tasks and objectives

The AWMF advises on policy and interdisciplinary matters and tasks, develops recommendations and resolutions and advocacy with the so -related institutions, especially in the political arena. In addition to the - given the increasing specialization increasingly urgent - tasks of internal cooperation plan is to align the interests of medical science increasingly outward advantage.

Some examples are:

  • Medical guidelines for diagnosis and therapy

The AWMF strives to fruitful cooperation with other bodies and the relevant political bodies in the interest of the beneficial interaction and an efficient and future- oriented development of medical sciences and their implementation in medical practice.

Together with the German Cancer Aid is the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany and the German Cancer Society guidelines on gastric cancer patients, the different forms of breast cancer and of prostate cancer in generally understandable brochures. It is available free of charge, founded by the doctor Mildred Scheel organization in Bonn.

Organization

The AWMF has since its founding in 1962, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main. She was initially a non- registered association; since 2007 has the AWMF the legal form of a registered association ( association Registration No. 13755 in the District Court Frankfurt am Main). Organs of the association are the delegates' conference (Parliament) and the Bureau. This includes (as of May 2012):

The AWMF also operates a branch in Dusseldorf and an office in Berlin. Managing Director and Head of the office is Wolfgang Müller MA ( Dusseldorf ).

2009 has set up its own " AWMF Institute for management of medical knowledge ( AWMF IMWI ) " the AWMF that (Lahn ) is based at the Faculty of Medicine of the Philipps University in Marburg. Director of the Institute is Ina B. Kopp.
