Assunta Legnante

Assunta Legnante ( born May 14, 1978 in Naples) is an Italian athlete who had at a height of 1.87 m, a competition weight of 115 kg.

Legnante won the shot put bronze at the European Junior Championships in 1997 and the U23 European Championships in 1999. In 2000, she was found guilty of doping and warned by the IAAF.

In 2002, she was at the European Indoor Championships runner-up with 18.60 m. Outdoors, she was eighth in 2002 at the European Championships. At the 2003 World Championships Legnante was again eighth.

In 2006, she turned to an Italian record with 19.04 meters. At the European Championships 2006, she was with 18,83 m Fifth. With 18,92 m Legnante won gold at the European Indoor Championships in 2007 in Birmingham. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 did not reach the final.

After she was blind, she took part in the Paralympic Summer Games in 2012 partly in London and won the shot put in the category F11/12 with a new world record 16.74 m the gold medal.
