Astrid Kumbernuss

Astrid Kumbernuss ( born February 5, 1970 in Greve mills) is a former German shot putter and Olympic champion.

Life

Early in her career she was also active as a discus thrower, where her greatest achievement was the silver medal at the Junior World Championships in 1988. Her first world title in the shot put won Astrid Kumbernuss 1995 in Gothenburg. She was 1.18 meters ahead of the runner- Huang Zhihong. This is the largest projection ever achieved in the Olympic Games or World Championships. She celebrated her greatest sporting success with victory at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. In the years 1995 and 1996 Astrid Kumbernuss seemed unbeatable, they won 51 contests in a row.

More gold medals she won at the 1997 World Championships in Athens and at the 1999 World Championships in Seville. In 1997 she became the German Sportswoman of the Year and - voted European athlete of the year - so far the only German track and field athlete (2012 ). On 3 September 2005, she told the retirement from competitive sport. She started for the SC Neubrandenburg.

Astrid Kumbernuss had a competition weight of 90 kg at a height of 1.86 m. In 1998, she became the mother of a son and lives in Neustrelitz. Since her career in late 2005, the trained retail saleswoman has worked for the Barmer GEK.
