Astronomical Society Islands

The Astronomical Society Islands (English Astronomical Society Islands) are a group of small islands and part of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago -. The approximately 25 km by 18 km large group consists of numerous flat, rocky islands, which are largely separated from each other only by narrow channels. The largest island is about 6 km by 8 km and is located in the center of the archipelago. The Astronomical Society Islands are located southeast of the Boothia Peninsula in the Gulf of Boothia at the entrance to Lord Mayor Bay. They belong to Nunavut, to more accurately Census division Kitikmeot, Unorganized.

The archipelago was explored as part of the Polar expedition of John Ross and James Clark Ross 1829/33. Is named the group after the British Royal Astronomical Society, which until 1831 was still called Astronomical Society of London.
