Asturias Forum

Foro de Ciudadanos ( German: Citizens' Forum ), short FAC, is a moderate right / conservative political party in Spain.

Formation

Francisco Alvarez- Cascos Fernández was 1989-1999 Secretary General of the conservative PP and 1996-2004 Minister in the Cabinet of Prime Minister José María Aznar. After the PP had lost the Spanish elections and the responsibility of government in Madrid in 2004, joined Alvárez - Cascos often originate from public criticism in the course of the party leadership.

After the party leadership had refused him set up as a top candidate for elections to the regional parliament of Asturias 22 May 2011, stated Alvárez - Cascos on 1 January 2011 his withdrawal from the PP. More followers in Asturias did the same and then founded the Foro de Ciudadanos, the initials Alvárez - Cascos leads with FAC as an abbreviation.

This is according to its statutes, a state-wide party. Importance has so far only the Asturian regional association obtained with the label the Foro Asturias.

Electoral success in Asturias 2011

Foro Asturias occurred on May 22, 2011 in Asturias on elections to the regional parliament and in 70 of the 78 municipalities of the region also to the simultaneous local elections.

In the elections to the regional parliament Foro Asturias immediately secured nearly 30% of the vote. It was there with 16 deputies, the strongest party (PSOE 15, PP 10, IU 4). Since no coalition came about, the Foro Asturias formed a minority government under Alvárez - Casco.

In the local elections accounted for 20 % of the vote Foro Asturias, the thus succeeded in gaining in 59 municipal parliaments. In the two largest cities of Gijón ( nine out of 27 city council members ) and Oviedo ( seven of 27), there is in each case the second- largest party in the city councils, in Gijón also the mayor.

Spanish 2011 parliamentary elections

For the Spanish parliamentary elections of 20 November 2011, the FAC lists of candidates submitted only in the constituencies ( provinces ) Asturias and Madrid. In Asturias they received 14.7 % of the votes in Madrid only 0.2 %. In relation to the whole of Spain makes this one vote share of 0.4 %. However, since the allocation of seats after the Spanish electoral law is solely at constituency level, handed the result in Asturias, to feed with a deputy in the Chamber of Deputies.

Regional Elections 2012

After the FAC minority government had found for the draft budget 2012 in the regional parliament of Asturias no majority, sparked Prime Minister Alvárez - Casco this on January 30, 2012 and convened elections for 25 March 2012. In these the Foro Asturias received 25 % of the vote (13 seats) and was behind the PSOE (32 %, 16 seats), but again in front of the PP (22 %, 10 seats) second strongest force in the regional parliament, but lost the government.
