Asuka (Nara)

Asuka (Japanese明日香 村, -mura ) is a village in Takaichi -gun in Nara prefecture in Japan.

History

From 538-710 was Asuka location for several Japanese imperial palaces (including Kiyomihara Palace ) and thus also for the capital Asuka- kyō the former Yamato Empire. After the former city this time is also called the Asuka period.

The Asuka- dera, Asuka - niimasu -jinja, the Okadera and several other old buildings from this time remained. There is archaeological excavations to expose more relics. In the field, for example, Wado coins, which are considered the oldest coins of Japan, as well as paintings were excavated in the Kitora graves. Because of the many sites there are in the town of strict building codes.

The Ishibutai - Kofun, a hill grave, is also located in Asuka. On 21 March 2004, the discovery of the remains of a main building, a residence was announced. As the residence adjoins the Kofun, it is likely that the residence of Soga no Umako belonged to the suspected buried in the Kofun.
