At Last

1941

At Last is a pop song that was written in 1941 by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren for the musical film Orchestra Wives. The text is expected that by the end everything will be well: Then you discover his lover, the lonely days are over and that life may be like a song. The most famous cover version is by Etta James ( 1961). This version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.

Effect story

In the film, Orchestra Wives ( 1941) sang him George Montgomery and Ann Rutherford. The first disc recording was on May 20, 1942, Glenn Miller and his orchestra and the singers Ray Eberle and Pat Friday in Chicago (RCA Victor Records 27934 ). It was a big hit (# 9 on the Billboard pop charts).

The song soon became a standard: Ray Anthony At Last played in 1952. 1957 took him Nat King Cole on his hit album Love Is the Thing. A version of the Four Freshmen followed 1960. 2009 he was the first dance at the balls for the inauguration of Barack Obama.

Etta James

The version of Etta James was released in 1961 by Argo and is the third single a single from her debut album for Chess Records At last! The recording was their second # 2 in the R & B charts and reached the pop charts, where it came to number 47 on the Billboard Hot 100. The orchestra, which plays an essential role in the song, was arranged by Riley Hampton and dirigiert.Die number was her signature song and can be heard on the radio today.

More pictures were taken by Beyoncé (# 67) and Christina Aguilera. The version of Beyoncé comes from the movie Cadillac Records, where she portrayed Etta James.
