Atagün Yalçınkaya

Atagün Yalçınkaya ( born December 14, 1986 in Ankara) is a Turkish boxer. At the age of 17 he won at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, a silver medal. He thus also became the youngest ever Olympic medal winner of the Turkish sports history.

Career

Amateur

2003 Yalçınkaya European champion of students ( U17) in the light flyweight (-48 kg). At the European Championships for men in the following year he failed in the preliminary round at Pal Bedak, Hungary ( 27:11 ). In 2004 Yalçınkaya part in the Summer Olympic Games in Athens. Surprisingly, he struggled with wins over Jolly Katongole from Uganda, Jeyhun Abiyew from Azerbaijan, the Italian Vice-European Champion Alfonso Pinto and the Russian champion Sergei Kazakov the final. In this he faced the Cuban Yan BARTHELEMI, whom he defeated with 21:16 points. He was so after Malik Beyleroğlu only the second Turkish silver medalist in Olympic history in boxing and at the same time the recent Turkish medal winner at the Olympic Games.

2005 Yalçınkaya won the Mediterranean Games flyweight (-51 kg). At the world championships in the same year, he failed in the first round of Georgi Balakschin, Russia ( 20:13). Something similar happened to him at the European Championships 2006., Where he defeated Stuart Langley, England ( 39:31 ).

Professional

2008 Yalçınkaya signed his compatriot Ahmet Öner a cooperation agreement and boxed for the Arena Box-Promotion. After four fights already finished his career
