Ataur Rahman Khan

Ataur Rahman Khan ( Bengali: আতাউর রহমান খান, Ataur Rahaman Khān; born March 6, 1905 in Balia, District Dhaka, Bengal, British India; † 7 December 1991 in Dhaka ) was a politician in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Biography

After leaving school at the Pogose School in Dhaka in 1924 and the exam at Jagannath College in 1927, he studied at the University of Dhaka, which he finished in 1930 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). His subsequent study of law at the University of Dhaka he joined in 1936 with a Bachelor of Laws ( LL.B. ), and then was admitted to the bar in Dhaka district. After working for two years in judicial service between 1942 and 1944, he joined as a lawyer again.

Khan was already in Bengal politically active as chairman of the Krishak Praja Party, and the Muslim League. After the partition of India in 1947, he was one of the founders of the Awami League, its vice- president he was and took in this function in the aftermath of all democratic people's movements in part. Later, he was President of the Grand National Convention, the public opinion on the establishment of a fully autonomous province of East Pakistan. He became a close ally of the founder of Krishak - Sramik Party ( KSP ) AK Fazlul Huq and Hussain Saeed Suhrawardi.

As in the election of 1954, the KSP in alliance " United Front " ( Jukto front ) the party "Muslim League " hit the country with the party " Awami League " by far, this had the effect that Huq Governor of East Bengal and Khan Deputy Chief minister.

After his election as Group Chairman of the Awami League in the province of Parliament ( Provincial Assembly) he was from September 1956 until the end of 1958, even Chief Minister of the province. At this time he also appointed Prime Minister Mujibur Rahman later as minister of industry, trade, labor, anti-corruption and village aid and Muhammad Mansur Ali as Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs, food and agriculture in his cabinet. During the two- year term of his majority government several development projects have been initiated in the hitherto backward East Pakistan. After the coup d'état of General Muhammad Ayub Khan on 27 October 1958 he was removed from his position as Chief Minister of the Province and excluded after the imposition of martial law on the exercise of elected offices.

After the death Suhrawardis he left in 1963 the Awami League and founded instead the Jatiya League. After he called, he was arrested in December 1970 by the Pakistan Army declaration of independence of East Pakistan from Pakistan. After the independence of Bangladesh on 17 December 1971, he was elected Members of Parliament ( Jatiya Sangsad ) and was then Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. In 1979 he was re-elected as an MP.

Most recently, he was the successor of Hossain Mohammad Ershad of 30 March 1984 to July 9, 1986 Prime Minister. After retiring from this office was Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury 's new prime minister.
