ATB Financial

ATB Financial ( Alberta Treasury Branches), is a financial service provider headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The company is owned by the province of Alberta. It provides financial services exclusively for about 680,000 customers in the province based company. ATB has 167 branches and 130 agencies and employs over 5,300 employees.

History

ATB was founded by the first Ministry of Social Affairs under William Aberhart on 29 September 1938. The first store opened in Rocky Mountain House on the same day. The late 1980s, the financial services provider has been embroiled in a scandal. At the scandal Peter Pocklington 's Gainers Foods and Ghermezian Brother, founder of the West Edmonton Mall were involved by bad loans and political interests. In the 1990s, the provincial government reformed the company to increase its competitiveness. 1996 independent directors were selected.
