Atchison County (Missouri)
The Atchison County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 5685 inhabitants and a population density of 4 people per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rockport.
Geography
The County is located in the northwest corner of Missouri and is bordered to the north by Iowa. To the west of the Missouri forms the border with Nebraska. The Atchison County has an area of 1415 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The area of present-day Atchison County was ceded in 1836 in the wake of the plate purchase of the previously settled there Indians to the United States in 1837 and the state of Missouri slammed.
The Atchison County was formed on February 23, 1843 from former parts of the then larger Holt County. Was named the newly created County to David Rice Atchison (1807-1886), a U.S. Senator from Missouri.
