Atchison is a city in the United States of America in the state of Kansas. It is the administrative seat ( county seat ) of Atchison County. In 2000 10.232 people lived in Atchison; until the official estimate in 2009, the population increased slightly to 10,432.

The city has an area of 18.7 km ² (of which 17.7 km ² land area).
History
The town was founded in 1854 and is known as the birthplace of pilot Amelia Earhart, held annually in July in whose honor a festival that attracts 30000-50000 visitors.
Just came Jesse Stone, an American musician and arranger of jazz and rhythm and blues from Atchison. Jesse Stone and his Blues Serenaders was a Territory of Kansas City jazz band that played from 1926-27 in and around Kansas City of Atchison from.
