Atelierhaus Salzamt

The studio Salzamt Linz ( also Kliemstein house ) as a former salt office is used by the City of Linz since 2009 on the promotion of international artists exchange to the visual arts.

Salzamtsgasse

The Imperial Salt Chamber was established in 1706 on the southern bank of the Danube as a three-storey building. Its generation time according to it has many baroque features. Courses, exhibition hall and several other rooms have vaulted ceiling. Where to build the exterior walls to the former city wall, they are in places over 2 meters thick.

As the building is subject to the monument was placed at the completed renovation in 2009 in the best possible preservation of the original structure value. Thus, the original stucco ceilings and wooden floors belt were obtained in many rooms. The bar construction of the roof was unchanged. The layout of the complex is similar to the lowercase "h". The total floor area is 1400 m2. To accommodate the building equipment and sanitary facilities, a basement was built.

In 1911, the Salt Office was separated on Upper Donauländebahn No. 15 structurally from Salzstadel on No. 17.

Studio house

The building is used as a living and working opportunity for local and foreign artists. It now consists of 5 apartments, 9 studios and an exhibition hall. The city of Linz has invested for the purchase and the renovation and adaptation of an amount of about 4 million euros. Artists will be made available for the duration of their stay 1-6 months home and studio for free. To accomplish this, the artist a stipend to cover their living expenses. If required, if possible, tools and equipment are left on loan. The resulting artworks will be presented in the exhibition hall.

On the ground floor next to the premises of the actual studio building a restaurant is housed, which is operated by an external tenants. In summer a well- enclosed courtyard with a portico serves as a dining area.

Following the initiative of the artist Josef Fischnaller, Engelbert Kliemstein and the other for a free art in Linz in the 1960s, the house was carried out in the exhibitions and workshops were offered, designated as of 2002 a project basis with Kliemstein house.
