Atemi

Atemi ( Japanese:当て身or当 身, literally: Bodyshot ) is a term used in Japanese martial arts ( Budo ). He referred to a blow or impact on sensitive points of the body of the opponent.

Target in the original Bujutsu ( martial arts ) was to make the enemy unable to fight with one blow. For example, by Atemi on vital vital points ( Kyusho, Chinese Dian Xue, Dim Mak ), organs or chakras.

In some Jiu -Jitsu and Aikido styles Atemi are mainly used to disrupt concentration or body balance of the opponent and catching. Since Aikido is a purely defensive martial art and may not have pure attacks, Atemi is used here only as a threat to force the attacker to a movement or prevent him from moving and catching result.

Many techniques can not be performed when a Atemi is not or only inadequately applied.

In sword schools of Atemi is also taught as an introductory distraction, disruption, to create an advantage. Here are the sensitive, unprotected parts of the body to be taken areas.
