The Ateneo de Manila University ( also Ateneo de Manila or Ateneo short ) is a private university run by Jesuits in the Philippines. It was founded in 1859 and began as a state-funded school. During the American occupation, it became a private school. The status of a University, she won in 1959.
The Ateneo is the East Asian Pastoral Institute ( EAPI ) attached.
Well-known graduates of the University are José Rizal, Felipe Agoncillo, Epifanio de los Santos, Pedro Paterno, Pedro Pelaez and G. Patricio Mariano.
