Aterm

Aterm is a VT100 terminal emulator for the X Window System, similar to xterm, rxvt or Eterm. The software is available under the GNU General Public License and is provided by most Linux distributions, as well as many other free Unix-like systems within the respective package management.

Code base for the program was version 2.4.8 of rxvt from the year 1999. The software is developed primarily within the scope of the AfterStep project. Nevertheless aterm does not rely on an installed AfterStep. Although aterm in this sense of AfterStep is independent and can be used with a variety of window managers, some of the functionality only in connection with AfterStep are available. These include features such as the influence of the phenomenon by AfterStep Themes.

Aterm supports pseudo- transparency. Unlike other terminal emulators such as xterm or urxvt but no UTF -8 is supported.

In early 2008 the development of aterm is set, urxvt has since become the preferred terminal emulator of the AfterStep project.
