Athenodorus of Byzantium

Athenodorus (also: Athenogenes ) ( † 148) was bishop of Byzantium. His tenure has been dated to the years 144-148 as Zeuxippos the city under Emperor Antoninus Pius reigned. During this time, the Christian population to be greatly increased in Byzantium. Athenodorus commissioned the construction of a church in Elaea in order that henceforth the bishops served as the seat instead of the old church of Argyroupolis. The Church of Elaea was renovated later by Emperor Constantine the Great, who wanted to be buried in it, but then decided to use another resting place. Successor of Athenodorus was Euzois.
