Athens Olympic Velodrome

The Olympic Velodrome of Athens (Greek Ολυμπιακό Ποδηλατοδρόμιο ) is a velodrome in the Olympic Sports Complex in Athens suburb of Maroussi in the Greek capital Athens. At the 2004 Summer Olympics was the venue for the velodrome track cycling competitions.

The cycling track is 250 meters long, consists of the African hardwood Afzelia and has a superelevation of 42 degrees. Planners of the railway was the Australian racetrack architect Ron Webb, the roof over the railway was designed by the Spaniard Santiago Calatrava. The velodrome can accommodate more than 5,000 spectators.

The railway was originally built for the Mediterranean Games in 1991 and was originally called Velodrome Konstantinidis, named after the Greek cyclists Aristidis Konstantinidis, the first Olympic champion of the modern era in 1896. Prior to the 2004 Olympics, the track was renovated and received a roof. 1995, 1996 and 1997, found here runs of the UCI Track Cycling World Cup held in 1992 and 1999, the UCI Track World Junior Championships.
