Athenstedt is a district of the city of Halberstadt in the district of Harz, in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geography

Athenstedt is located on the southwestern edge of the ridge Huy in the northern Harz Foreland.

History

1187 Athenstedt was first mentioned. Athenstedt belonged until 1648 to the Bishopric of Halberstadt and then got to the Principality of Halberstadt. The place was directly subordinated to the Office Zilly - Mulmke and arrived in 1815 at the Magdeburg Region of the Prussian Province of Saxony.

On 1 January 2010, until then independent municipality Athenstedt was incorporated together with the communities Aspenstedt, Long Stone, Sargstedt and Ströbeck in the city of Halberstadt.

The community Athenstedt lies on the main road 79 between Halberstadt and Dardesheim; a southern bypass road B 79 is being planned. From the main road branches in Athenstedt two roads north to Huy - Neinstedt and south to Danstedt from. Athenstedt can be reached by bus from the Harz region transport.
