Athinaikos F.C.
Athinaikos Athens (Greek Αθηναϊκός Γυμναστικός Σύλλογος, Athinaikos Gymnastikos Syllogos, " Athenian Turnverein ", unofficially also Athinakós Vyrona ) is a Greek football club, based in Vyronas, a community on the northwestern edge of the Athens metropolitan area.
It was founded in 1917 and merged in 1950 with Nea Elvetia. In the 1990/1991 season the club reached the final of the Greek Cup, where they lost to Panathinaikos Athens 0-3 in the first leg, 2-1 in the second leg of the residue could not compensate. Since Panathinaikos then took a Greek Champion in Europe Champions Cup, Athinaikos came in the European Cup winners. There, however, they lost in the first round against Manchester United. In the first leg Athinaikos reached a 0-0, but the second leg was lost 0-2. Today, the club plays in the second Greek league.
