Athlete (band)

Athlete are a British band from London.

Band History

The four band members had known each other since childhood and decided in 1999 to start a band. After concerts in London's City district Deptford, home of three band members, they released their first EP in 2002 Athlete. By some tours and Singles of the awareness and popularity of the band grew. As a result, the single You Got The Style climbed into the Top 40 on the British charts.

After several appearances as the opening act for bands like Mansun, The Polyphonic Spree, The Electric Soft Parade and Simian the band received a recording contract with EMI, where in 2003 their debut album Vehicles and Animals appeared. This album gave the band the first gold record. After appearances at the Glastonbury Festival and T In The Park, the band for the Mercury Music Prize nominated.

In 2005, the band released their second album, Tourist, which reached # 1 on the charts and earned them the second gold record. The first single from the album was the track wires, in which the singer Joel Pott worked up his feelings as a new father. In the summer of the same year Athlete played as the opening act at three concerts as part of the Vertigo tour the Irish band U2. 2006, the song " Chances" from the "Tourist " album was used for the trailer of the Russell Crowe film A Good Year by Ridley Scott.

In September 2007 she released her third studio album Beyond the Neighbourhood.

Style

The band had initially prescribed the Britpop, however, developed a stand-alone, characterized by electronic influences sound. As Keane and Coldplay can Athlete for alternative indie rock count.
