Athletic Association of Small States of Europe

Member States

The Athletic Association of Small States of Europe ( AASSE ) is the Athletics Association of Small States of Europe. Member may only states with less than one million inhabitants are. All relevant States are presently members with the exception of the Vatican State, which does not participate in international athletics competitions.

Formation

At the congress of the European Athletics Association (EAA ) in 1991 in Estoril Portugal a draft statute and future activities were discussed. After the presentation there was great support for the EAA. At its Congress in 1992 in Prague, the EAA participation of a combined AASSE team at " Bruno Zauli Cup", accepted in principle.

After the competition rules had been drawn up, decided the member associations of AASSE 1993 the IAAF Congress in Stuttgart in the EAA propose as a team on " Bruno Zauli Cup" to participate in 1994.

The official founding of the AASSE took place during the EAA Congress in the presence of the President Carl -Olaf Homen in 1994 in Venice. The Memorandum was signed by the representatives of Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta and San Marino.

Also on the EAA Congress in Venice, the participation of a combined AASSE teams at the " Bruno Zauli Cup" ( Athletics European Cup 1994) in Dublin was adopted. Monaco was in 2000 a member of the AASSE and Montenegro 2006.
