Atlantis -2 is a transatlantic fiber optic telecommunications cable connecting Argentina, Brazil, Senegal, Cape Verde, Canary Islands and Portugal. It is the first submarine cable that connects Latin America and the African continent and the only submarine cable that connects directly Latin America and Europe.

The Atlantis 2 project is supported by a consortium of 25 international companies, including primarily Embratel, Telintar, Telefonica de Argentina, Telecom Argentina STET -France Telecom, DTAG, Telecom Italia ( also Sonatel, Cabo Verde Telecom, Telefonica, Marconi, France Telecom, Belgacom, CAT, DACOM, Korea Telecom, Polish Telecom, SingTel, Sprint, Swisscom, Telefonica Larga Distancia Puerto Rico, Telefonica Mundo, Teleglobe USA, VSNL, Worldcom ). The cable was ready for service in February 2000 with a capacity of 40 Gbit / s Atlantis -2 is not suitable as an old and overloaded and for internet traffic. Therefore, the submarine cable is used only for the transmission of conventional telephone conversations.
