Atlee Mahorn

Atlee Anthony Mahorn ( born October 27, 1965 in Clarendon Parish ) is a retired Canadian track and field athlete of Jamaican origin. He had specialized in the 200 -meter run and was also used in the 4 x 100 - meter relay team of his country.

His first international commitment to Canada, he graduated at the World Athletics Championships 1983 in Helsinki. He retired with the 4 x 100 meters relay however already in the flow. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles Mahorn about 200 m succeeded in moving into the semi-final round. In 1985 he won the silver medal in the 200 -meter run at the Universiade in Kobe.

1986 Mahorn won at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh over 200 m, beating, among others, Ben Johnson. A year later, at the World Athletics Championships 1987 in Rome, he won over the same distance the eighth. With the fourth season missed a medal scarce. In Seoul in 1988 he achieved his best result at the Olympics when he finished fifth in the 200 -meter run. With the season he came on the seventh.

At the World Athletics Championships 1991 in Tokyo, he won the 200 m in 20.49 s behind Michael Johnson and Frank Fredericks the bronze medal. In the 100 -meter run Mahorn was eliminated in the semifinals. He also started in Tokyo for the Canadian 4-by- 100 - meter relay team that finished eighth in the final, but was itself used only in the qualifying round. Also at the 1992 Olympics started Mahorn again in these three disciplines, but reached no competition in the final.

At the end of the 1992 season, he announced his retirement from competitive sports, but returned in 1993 for the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart again on the train back. There he won as the final runners in the relay, together with Robert Esmie, Glenroy Gilbert, Bruny Surin the bronze medal. It turned the quartet with a time of 37.83 seconds for a new Canadian national record.

Atlee Mahorn is 1,87 m tall and weighed about his playing days 80 kg. He studied political science at the University of California at Berkeley.
