Atomic Energy of Canada Limited

Atomic Energy of Canada Limited ( AECL ) is a Canadian public company and also the largest nuclear research center of the country. The company's headquarters is located in the Chalk River Laboratories, Ontario. The company was founded in 1952 and employs approximately 3,200 employees. It explores and develops new nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes with the involvement of physics, metallurgy, chemistry, biology and engineering.

The company is working with other national and international partners, including universities, various Canadian- government research institutions, private research centers, and international agencies such as the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA). AECL developed the CANDU reactor technology and distributed them worldwide through October 2011. Were built until 2011, several power plants in India, South Korea, Argentina, Romania and China. 2011, the company transferred the patent rights of its technology to the Canadian energy company SNC Lavalin. AECL is a member of the World Nuclear Association.
