Attalus II Philadelphus

Attalus II Philadelphus ( 220 BC *, † 138 BC) was king of Pergamon from the dynasty of Attalids. He was the second son of Attalus I and the Apollonis.

He followed in the year 159 BC, his brother Eumenes II to the throne after he had made ​​BC state affairs since 192. He is the builder of the famous Stoa of Attalos in Athens. His nickname " Philadelphus " ( " brother -loving " ) contribute to Eumenes due to its close relationship.

His illegitimate son Aristonicus claimed in the year 133 BC the throne under the name of Eumenes III.
