Attichy

Attichy is a commune with 1909 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Oise in the Picardie region. It belongs to the district Compiègne and Canton Attichy. The village lies in the valley of the Aisne.

Prisoner of war camp

In the years 1945 to 1946 was in Attichy an American prisoner of war camp where German soldiers and officers were interned. The prisoners were housed in inhumane conditions, had to do hard labor and were regularly beaten and abused by American officers and soldiers. For the returnees, the camp was known as the " Hell of Attichy ".
