Attila Kotányi

Attila Kotány [ ɒtil ː ɒ ː kota ɲi ] ( born September 18, 1924 in Hungary; † 18 October 2003) was a Hungarian writer and architect.

Life

He lived in Budapest and was in contact with the theorists Lajos Szabó and Béla Hamvas. In 1956, he fled to his participation in the popular uprising in Hungary with his family from Hungary to Yugoslavia to Brussels. In 1960 he learned of the artist group Situationist International and soon became a member.

He defended the thesis of the impossibility of an uncorrupted art and moved with traditions of Christian mysticism.

In the seventies and eighties of the 20th century, he taught art at the Art Academy in Dusseldorf. In the nineties he lived again in Budapest. His daughter Sophie Kotány is a director and described in 1997 the circumstances of the escape from Hungary and living in Belgium in her film Amor Fati.
