Au ZH

Au is a village in the political community Wädenswil, in the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland.

It is located in the northwest Wädenswils on Lake Zurich and has a railway station on the railway line Zurich -Chur. By 1925 it was an independent school community.

The Au consists of the parts Oberort, City center and sub-location and from the peninsula, on the back of the place-name. It was first mentioned in 1316 as " Owe ". Getting older is the traditional designation since 1130 Naglikon, now serves only as a place name.

The remains of a prehistoric stilt houses in Lake Zurich at the Front Au are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps.

Until the 20th century, the Au was heavily agricultural. Only after the Second World War, a strong growth, so that industrial zones and large housing developments arose. The built in 1943 by Hans Fischli and Oskar Stock so-called settlement pattern Gwad comprises 48 homes. It is one of the earliest and most important examples publicly funded building in Canton Zurich. The Catholic and Protestant parish Wädenswil both have a church building in the village of Au.
