Aubervilliers
The community Aubervilliers is a suburb in the north of the French capital Paris. It belongs to the department of Seine -Saint -Denis in the metropolitan area Ile de France and has 75 598 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

Geography
Aubervilliers is bordered to the west by Saint -Denis, to the north by La Courneuve, on the east by Pantin and south to Paris. The west of the city is crossed by the Canal Saint- Denis.
Aubervilliers is divided into cantons Canton Aubervilliers - Est -Ouest Canton Aubervilliers.
History
The city was first mentioned in 1060. Until the 19th century it was dominated by agriculture. It was only by the growth of Paris changed the cityscape. Industries moved in, accordingly, the population increased due to the influx of industrial workers of Paris in the suburb less expensive. Since the 1960s, high-rise buildings were added in slab construction, in which mainly settled immigrants. Today Aubervilliers is a multicultural city, with 41 different nationalities and a center of Islam in France.
Policy
Aubervilliers was amended by the exclusion of two school girls who wore head scarves ( Alma and Lila Lévy ) known in 2004. In addition, it was the scene of violent riots by young people with a migration background in summer / autumn 2005.
