Aubignosc

Aubignosc ( Provençal Aubinhòsc ) is a Southeast French mountain village with 555 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Alpes- de -Haute -Provence, Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur. It belongs to the community association Lure Vancon Durance.

Geography

Aubignosc is located in the French Alps on the orographic right bank of the Durance, 104 kilometers northeast of Marseille and 22 kilometers north- west of Digne- les- Bains, the seat of the prefecture of the department of Alpes- de -Haute -Provence. Neighboring communities of Aubignosc are Peipin in the north, Salignac in the northeast, southeast and Volonne in Châteauneuf -Val -Saint -Donat in the south. History

The archaeologist André Müller headed the excavations, which were carried out from 1987 to 1989 prior to the construction of Autoroute A51 in the lieu- dit Ponchonière. Here, a prehistoric site was discovered from the central and Neolithic, which has an area of ​​35,000 square meters.

The archaeological sites are all in the valley of the Durance, where the course of the Via Domitia is suspected. In 1988, about 500 meters southwest of the hamlet of Les Rouvieres some tegulae from Gallo-Roman times (52 BC to 486 AD) found. 1962, a grave from the Gallo -Roman period was found during road construction in the village. In lieu'dit Les Presidente northeast of Ponchonière remains have been found of buildings, which were inhabited until the end of the 3rd century. Another building was found during an excavation in 1993 and 1994.

Culture and sights

In the church there is a monument historique as a Grade II listed paintings from the 18th century. The picture shows the Virgin and Child with Saints Roch of Montpellier and Ignatius of Loyola.
