Greek Blaukissen ( Aubrieta deltoid )

The Greek Blaukissen ( Aubrieta deltoid ) is a species of the genus Blaukissen ( Aubrieta ) in the family of cruciferous plants.

Features

The Greek blue pillow cushion plant is a perennial, which reaches stature heights between 5 and 20 centimeters. The plant is lockerrasig and appears gray because of the star-branched trichomes. The fruit pen are clearly separated. The crown is blue, purple, pink, red or white.

Bloom time is from April to June.

Occurrence

The Greek blue pillow comes in Sicily, on the southern Balkans, the Aegean and western Turkey before in montane rocky corridors.

Use

The Greek Blaukissen is widely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens and used in dry-stone walls, as well as a ground cover and as bee forage plant. It is in culture since the late 18th century. By cross-breeding of other species numerous varieties have emerged, with large, partly filled flowers yellowish or whitish flowers and border.
