Auckland City

Auckland City ( often also Central Auckland ) until 1 November 2010 a city district (English City Council ) on the North Island of New Zealand, which included large parts of the Isthmus of Auckland and most of the islands in the Hauraki Gulf and was in Auckland Council incorporated. With over 420,000 inhabitants Auckland City was the largest city in the country before Christchurch. The term Auckland but is usually the greater Auckland area meant belonging to the next Auckland City Manukau still, Waitakere and North Shore.

Geography

The largest part of Auckland City is located on an isthmus. During the opening into the Hauraki Gulf Waitemata Harbour separates the city to the north of North Shore, the Manukau Harbour opens out into the Tasman Sea in the southwest forms a natural border with the city of Manukau. West of Auckland City is adjacent to the city - district of Waitakere.

A non-negligible part of Auckland City are the numerous islands in the Hauraki Gulf. The main islands of the inner Hauraki Gulf are Rangitoto Iceland, Iceland Motutapu, Browns Iceland, Motuihe, Rakino, Ponui and Waiheke. The two largest islands in the outer Hauraki Gulf are the Great Barrier Iceland and the Little Barrier Iceland.

Over the past 100 years, large areas west of the present city center were developed through land reclamation. Since 2006, the company first moved into the - until now - rather unused area that is referred to as " Western Reclamation ".

Residents and Boroughs

Auckland City consists of a variety of neighborhoods. The most important among them are next to the CBD:

  • In the city center: St Marys Bay, Free Mens Bay, Ponsonby, Newton, Grafton, Eden Terrace, Newmarket, Parnell and Mechanics Bay,
  • In the East: Orakei, Mission Bay, Kohimarara, St Heliers, Glendowie, Glen Innes, Point England, Tamaki, Panmure, St. Johns and Meadowbank,
  • In the southeast, Remuera, Greenlane, Ellerslie, Mt Wellington, Southdown, Westfield and Otahuhu,
  • In the south: Mt Eden, Balmoral, Epsom, Wesley, Mt Roskill, Three Kings, Royal Oak, Onehunga, Hillsborough, Lynfield and Waikowhai,
  • In the southwest: Kingsalnd, Morningside, Mt Albert, Sandringham, Owairaka, Waterview, Avondale, New Windsor and Blockhouse Bay and
  • In the West: Arch Hill, Grey Lynn, Herne Bay, Westmere, Western Springs and Point Chevalier.

Furthermore, there are settlements on the Auckland City adjacent islands, such as

  • Rangitoto Iceland and
  • On Waiheke Iceland Oneroa, Blackpool, Surf Dale, Palm Beach, Ostend, Omihi and Onetangi.
