The Auckland Grammar School is a secondary school for boys in Auckland, New Zealand. According to the school system in New Zealand boys are taught from Year 9 to 13, ie from age 12 on up to university. Built in 1916 Auckland Grammar School is one of the oldest and, with more than 2,200 students one of the largest schools in New Zealand and is also home to 120 boarding students. It was founded in 1850 and officially origin 1868. The main building is a listed building ( Historic Places Act 1993 ).

On July 27, 1988, the main building of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust under the number 4471 as a memorial of category 1 ( Historic Place Category I) was classified. In the same street also Stoneways, the landmarked former home of the famous New Zealand architect William Gummer is (1884-1966)

The school motto is "Per Angusta ad Augusta " ( Through depths consecrated heights) is also used by other schools. The school also uses the somewhat free translation Through difficulties to greatness.
