AUCTeX

AUCTEX is an extension for GNU Emacs and XEmacs editors. It provides an integrated development environment for TeX, LaTeX, Texinfo and ConTeXt that these editors to many important functions that are not included in the standard TeX mode adds. This makes the writing academic papers is made considerably easier.

TeX compiler and additional programs like BibTeX, PDF and DVI Viewer can be started directly from AUCTeX.

AUCTeX includes preview-latex which indicates using PostScript generates a preview for tables, formulas and images directly in the editor. For this purpose, it uses TeX and various tools to generate the thumbnails and the corresponding literature and cross-references.

Together with the reftex -mode, which is part of Emacs, cross-references can be particularly easily processed ( also bibliographies ).

AUCTeX is free software under the GNU General Public License and to eventually replace the standard TeX -mode in Emacs.
