Audio/Video Bridging

Audio Video Bridging ( AVB) is a set of standards of the Audio / Video Bridging Task Group (IEEE 802.1 ) for synchronized and prioritized streaming of audio and video data over networks. The AVB Task Group has been renamed in November 2012, as part of an expansion of their field of, in Time - Sensitive Networking ( TSN) Task Group. The TSN Task Group operates, inter alia, to extensions defined in AVB mechanisms.

AVB is made up of the following standards:

IEEE and IEEE 802.1Qat 802.1Qav expand the established standard IEEE 802.1Q, the prioritization and Virtual LAN describes. Both extensions have been integrated into IEEE 802.1Q - 2011.

Historical Background

Wiring classical A / V devices occurred due to the analog signals mainly point-to -point connection. This quickly leads to a large installations tough to looking number of individual compounds. And digital content are still often performed as a point -to-point connection. AVB makes it possible to use the inexpensive and comprehensive available Ethernet networks for duplex transmission of many audio and video channels, among others. The synchronization of multiple network connections is done by coassigned time information.
