Audishu V Khayyath

Abdisho V. Khayat (* October 15, 1827 in Mosul, † November 6, 1899 ) whose real name was Georges Ebed- Jesus Khayyat or Abdisho Giwargis Hayyat was 1894-1899 Patriarch of Babylon of the Chaldeans, in the Chaldean Catholic Church, he was as Syrian scholar.

Abdisho Khayat is considered the author of the Mosul edition of the Syriac Bible (Old Testament) " Peshitta ". He studied at colleague for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome and was ordained a priest in 1855. From the patriarch Joseph VI. Audo he received on 28 March 1860, the episcopal ordination and became bishop of Amadiyah. From 1863 to 1870 he was Patriarchal Vicar of Mosul and 1879-1894 Metropolitan and Archbishop of Diarbekir On October 28, 1894, he took over until his death on November 6, 1899, the Patriarchate of Babylon. He was a total of 39 years as a bishop.
